St. Augustine Record Publisher Ron Davidson Announces Retirement

Ron Davidson

AUGUSTA, GA — February 14, 2013 — Veteran newspaperman Ron Davidson, publisher of The St. Augustine Record, announced today that he will retire from the newspaper later this year.

“My wife and I have been planning this for some time and it’s getting near the time for me to play more golf and spend more time with the family. I’ve truly enjoyed my time at The Record and appreciate the kindnesses and friendships I’ve gained in my three plus years here,” Davidson said.

“From day one, Ron jumped right in and immersed himself in the St Augustine community,” said Derek May, executive vice-president of Morris Publishing Group, LLC. “I thank him for all he’s done at The Record, and wish him the best in his retirement.”

Davidson, 62, started his newspaper career in his hometown of Kingsport, Tenn. when he answered a classified ad for a sales position. From there, his passion for newspapers grew with his 39-year career across several other papers and newspaper chains.

In 2007 he became the vice president of sales and marketing for The Florida Times-Union and publisher of The St. Augustine Record in 2010.

“I’ve enjoyed my time with the Morris family and appreciate the opportunities that relationship has afforded me. I will miss the great folks at The Record and the Times Union and my many friends at Morris Publishing Group,” said Davidson. “I am very proud of The St. Augustine Record and the great professionals who work here who provide a strong focus on local news, people and events.”

Davidson and his wife, Janet, live near Jacksonville Beach. They have two grown sons in Wichita, KS.
