CHRONICLE NAMES NEW EDITORIAL

Augusta, Ga. - Michael F. Ryan
has been named editorial page editor of The Augusta Chronicle,
succeeding Suzanne Downing who resigned in May. The announcement
was made today by William S. Morris III, publisher of the
Chronicle and chairman and chief executive officer
of Morris Communications Company LLC.
A native of Kansas City, Kan., Ryan is a 21-year veteran of
the newspaper industry. He has served as editorial page editor
of The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal since 1991.
Since joining the Capital-Journal in 1983, he has been legal
affairs editor, columnist, county government and courts reporter
and general assignment reporter.
"We are very fortunate to have Mike Ryan join the Chronicle
staff in this significant role. He is an experienced and dedicated
journalist with an exceptional understanding of public affairs
and community relations," said Morris.
Ryan is expected to assume his new responsibilities in Augusta
in mid-July.
