BUYS WEEKLY NEWSPAPER IN JUNEAU
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Morris Publishing Group
LLC has purchased Capital City Weekly, a Juneau-based free
newspaper serving Southeast Alaska. In the same transaction,
the company purchased Boat Broker, a companion publication
published monthly.
Capital City Weekly began publication
in 1980 as a 6,000-circulation shopper, consisting primarily
of classified advertisements. Today the paper offers news
and feature stories along with advertising and has an estimated
circulation of 20,000. Boat Broker is a marine and outdoor
recreation magazine with an estimated monthly circulation
of 14,000.
Morris Publishing Group, parent company
of the Juneau Empire, has other Alaska newspaper holdings
in Kenai, Homer and Anchorage.
Morris Publishing Group was formed
in 2001 and assumed the operations of the newspaper business
segment of its parent, Morris Communications Co. Morris Publishing
Group publishes 26 daily, 12 nondaily and 23 free community
newspapers in the United States.
