AUGUSTA, Ga. Deedie Long has been named director of shared services for Morris Communications Company, LLC. The announcement was made today by Steve Stone, senior vice president and chief financial officer for newspapers and shared services of Morris Communications Co.
"Deedie has been a major part of our efforts since we started our journey," Stone said. "She is a quick learner and a team player. She knows our process and systems and gets the job done. She has the potential to be one of the best service center leaders in our industry."
Shared services consolidates administrative functions throughout Morris Communications, providing standardization, cost savings and streamlined financial and business processes to improve customer service and efficiency. In addition to her current areas of responsibilities, Deedie will assume overall responsibility for human resources/payroll, sourcing, implementations and the administrative functions of shared services.
In August 2002, Long accepted a position with the new Shared Services Center for Morris as the procure-to-pay process lead. She was promoted to order-to-cash lead, and most recently to manager of financial process for the Shared Services Center. Long started with Morris in March 2000 in the magazine division as the accounting department manager. She was later promoted to division controller.
Before joining Morris, Long was accounting manager at Recco International in Columbia, S.C. She also worked at Southern Lifestyle Homes in Cayce, S.C. Long earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Columbia College in Columbia, S.C.
